My favorite tree
Hi guys!!!
I came back after the practice in Rucamanque :)
I going to write about my favorite tree, which is Tineo (comun name) or Weinmannia trichosperma Cav. (scientific name). It other popular name is palo santo.
This is my favorite tree because its leaves are beautiful. I like so much its sawn form.
Tineo is native specie of Chile and also Argentina. In Chile, it is located from Maule to the Taitao Peninsula. The tineo is part of the forest type: Coihue-Raulí-Tepa, Ciprés de las Guaitecas, Coihue de Magallanes, Siempreverde y Alerce.
This tree is characterized by reaching heights of 30 meters on average. Its leaves are odd-shaped, opposite, coriaceous, between each leaflet and on both sides of the spine have triangular wings that give each pair a rhomboidal shape; At the base of the leaves there are two deciduous stipules. Its trunk straight, cylindrical, gray bark, wrinkled and with well-marked longitudinal and transverse fissures.
Its small, white, hermaphrodite flowers, gathered in cylindrical clusters.
The fruit is a coriaceous, obovate, bipartite capsule crowned by the 2 styles, which during the autumn season changes its color to an intense vinous red. The seeds are ellipsoid, curved, very light brown, small and with white hairs.
This specie has several uses, one of the best known is its medicinal use as a cicatrizant, for which its crushed crust is applied on wounds. Another use is to tan skins with tannin from its bark. It also has ornamental and construction uses because its bark is very beautiful.
According to IUCN, its conservation status is of minor concern.
I think its leaves are beautiful too!
